This was originally a set of 144 tiles with unusual ‘flower and seasons’ tiles carved with kings. Only 137 tiles remain and as a bai ban is missing one of the king tiles would need to be substituted to make a 136 tile playable set. The construction, however, is unusual. Hand-carved veneers of an early plastic have been attached to bamboo tiles to mimic the more traditional bone and bamboo. Most probably this set dates to the 1950’s. It is housed in a wood slide-top box.
