A nice bone and bamboo set with good patina on unbleached bone. The bone is very thick (80% of the tile) making it a rare and originally expensive commodity. Most probably Republican, with just 136 tiles, the 1 tiao shows idiosyncratic carving and the other bamboo tiles have a linear, art deco feel. The set has had 2 tiles replaced with old tiles of a similar size, and is stored in a shallow slide-top box showing some degradation.
